Ever since I was about seven years old, I knew that I wanted to be in business for myself. I was not exactly sure what I wanted to do but I knew that I would be the boss.
As a child I came up with countless "business ventures" from a day care service to a magazine that I would sell to kids at school for a quarter. As soon as one venture would end I would be hot on the pursuit of another.
It was not until I was fourteen years old that I discovered a hobby that would soon turn into a career. From the shelves of a bookstore I pulled out a book on magic tricks. A few dollars later it was in my hand and on the way back to my house. Within a few days I was putting on my first magic shows for family and some neighbors. I was hooked on the entertainment bug and have not looked back since.
I worked my way through high school performing at birthday parties and restaurants and spent the summers working in magic shops in theme parks and at theaters. Two weeks after graduation from high school, I opened my own magic cart in the mall. It was a tough place to learn and within eight months the shop was closed.
I still had the ambition to do something bigger. For several years I worked seven nights a week performing magic. I had seen some Inflatables at some of the picnics I worked and always had an attraction to them. By this time I had also started booking other entertainers for different clients and earning some extra money. It was then that I hooked up with the owner of an inflatable company and started booking company picnic and church events.
The Turning Point
Within a year the relationship had fizzled, but my ambitions and vision had grown huge. During this year long relationship I happened upon a magician who was selling a marketing course tailored for magicians. It was a huge turning point and I quickly discovered the amazing power of marketing. Within a year I had taken the important lessons learned from his course and applied them to that of a booking agent and Event Coordinator for the inflatable industry.
I purchased some Inflatables and begin to market my company. Using these killer marketing techniques I was able to dominate my market within six months! Another company that had been in business for 12 years and was the "big dog" in the area offered to sell out to me the very first year. I bought out three companies in the first year and a half and have since taken hold of the entire region. I am not talking about this in an attempt to brag but instead in an effort to show you how truly powerful marketing can be.
